Upper Midwest Indian Council on Addictive Disorders (UMICAD) is a Bemidji, Minnesota-based 501(c)(3) reciprocity-level certification board.

We certify individuals as Alcohol & Drug Counselors and Peer Recovery Support Specialists within American-Indian SUD programs across Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin. We adhere to the best practices and standards set forth by the states as well as the
International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC).

Our Alcohol & Drug Counselor certification pathways can lead to licensure (Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor - LADC) without having to hold a bachelor’s or baccalaureate degree. Our levels of counseling certifications build upon one another with experiential (on-the-job) experience, which takes the place of formal classroom education.

This is called reciprocity and can translate into state, nationally and internationally recognized A&D counseling certifications!
